Dragon Ball Z Doramatic Diorama Figure

Just got a look at this figure this morning and it has a very, very accurate DBZ look to it. Depicting of course when Gohan defeated Cell with the just passed away Goku by his side, this is most definitely a DBZ figure to get. Let's face it, there's not many really good DBZ figures out there. Most of them are usually really cheaply made figures that tend to never reach the quality of say a Good Smile Company or Alter anime girl figure.

You will have to pay a pretty penny for it though. It costs about 10500 yen of probably in the range of $120USD (thanks to the yen being strong again =_=). To be honest, I'm not too certain of the scale just yet. If its like some of the other high quality DBZ figures that recently got released, it's probably a 1/7th or maybe even 1/6th scale.

I should be getting the rights to sell this in the store, so keep an eye out for it or you can message me and say "I want it!" and I'll see if its in my anime retailing powers to grab one.

Goku's Funeral

Sorry for the lack of updates...and the fact that the last batch of posts have basically been all DBZ posts ^^;;

Anyways, just saw something I thought you all would get a kick out of. More fan anger toward the Dragon Ball Evolution movie as ans weep on the loss of our dear Goku as Justin Chawin practically killed him in his sad role as the FOX version of Goku. Just remember that the is now Dragon Ball Kai to hopefully make you feel better.

Be back will more updates on the way and a full review of the DS game, Lux Pain.

Dragon Ball Evolution Review

The Dragon Ball Evolution movie is out. Its a movie very much hated by fans just from viewing the trailers, but lets get some honest reviews.

So who's seen it?

**Write in the comments your review of the movie. I'm curious to what fans and maybe first time Dragon Ball fans thought after actually seeing the movie.**

(I'll add my review here once I see it myself..not sure if I want to support FOX so much but I am an anime blog and anime store owner so its kind of a duty ^^;)

Update:
Well, I'm probably going to wait to buy the DVD at wholesale through my store but looking through the blogosphere...DBE tanked in the fans eyes and in general. Anime New Network went as far as saying "The fans were right!"
I see some reviews below Keep on adding them, would love to hear your opinions on the move.

I just hope FOX and Hollywood get the picture that they need to try even harder with anime and game movies. Us anime fans know that there is more depth and more soul to our manga, games and anime than say..yes..an X-Men or Superman comic. American comics are naturally bland and lack story/character depth and thus Hollywood can orchestrate a wonderful blockbuster movie since they have a very simple story to build and add upon. The Wolverine movie for example looks simply stunning....yet not even half the effort seems to be put into play for our beloved series...and much much more is needed to create a live action anime film that actually reflects or enhances the soul of its original creation.

So Hollywood, FOX... please get the picture. To come up with something at least half way decent and for the fans you have to go down the Harry Potter route both in quality and in budget in making anything from video games or anime. This is just embarrassing. FOX should be more embarrassed than Warner Bros. was back in the 1980's when they took over Atari and speed marketed E.T. leading to thousands of games to be thrown in the desert. (do your video game history on that one) I'm not going to get into the figures for the movie...if you need to have your eyes bleed..look at this.

Dragon Ball Kai

It's no joke that many anime fans have been horribly insulted by the Dragon Ball Evolution movie. Upset? Angry? Want 20th Century Fox to burn for all eternity?

Well, relax and forget about the obvious insult to anime fans that Hollywood love to throw out and sadly..will continue to do.

Just released in Japan a few hours ago was a new Dragon Ball series, Dragon Ball Kai. In short the series is a filler-less redo of the Dragon Ball Z series. Brand new animation and all the original voice actors (except for the late Seiyu of Tien) this is a God-sent for any anime fan...particularly DBZ fans who will surley cause some riots over the Hollywood insult.
Let's hope that the eventual American release for this does a few things:
  1. Doesn't take 15 years to get here like DBZ originally did
  2. Does not get watered down into a "kiddy cartoon"..as DBZ originally did in the original Ocean dub
  3. Gets put on to Cartoon Network's Adult Swim since CN has forsakend the very group of anime series that put them on the map. (Nobody gives a crap about King of the Hill, your own home-made garbage shows and we can simply watch Family Guy on Hulu.com)
  4. Creates an anime resurgence in the west

Anyways, here's the opening and ending sequences:

Update:
But wait there's more; Out on the 29th is an awesome looking Dragon Ball Kai Nintendo DS game.....sweet.

TFS Dragon Ball Z: Episode 6

As of a few days ago, the hilariously funny TeamFourStar Dragon Ball Z Abridged parody got its latest episode. Like many otaku, I've become an instant fan of the parody.

Speaking of DBZ's early episodes; Danielle and I have been watching the DBZ Season 1 Uncut DVD and its amazing how different the series is when you see it in its original form and not the bastardized first dub. I'm so glad anime brought to America has been kept whole and not filtered into a kiddy-Christian abomination...for the most part.

Anyways...check out the episode below:

Dragon Ball Z Movie: 14

As promised I told you that I'd pass on some amazingly good news if you are a Dragon Ball Z fan and if you are completely disgusted about the direction of 2009's Dragon Ball Movie. As the blog title says, there will be a 14th Dragon Ball Z animated movie! Granted there was a few movies made after movie 13 but none of them had anything to do with the Dragon Ball Z arch in the story. Named Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!! This brand new project coming from the creator himself, Akira Toriyama takes place right after the death of evil Majin Boo, the gap between DBZ and GT. I know many fans complained about the ending of Dragon Ball Z and how it just ended with Goku training Boo's reincarnation. I didn't mind it much and with the enormous work Akira Toriyama put into all his work...you want to give the guy a break. Otaku most likely will go nuts to hear that the story revolves around yet another unknown Saiyan named Tāburu who actually looks very, very much like he could be Vegeta's kid, so Trunks might have a half-brother. Tāburu is pursued to earth by two aliens named Abo and Kado but other than that, nothing else is really known about the plot. It comes out in November in Japan so we'll hear more of it soon. This hopefully will help those who fell off their chair to see Fox's white Piccolo ^^;;

More Dragon Ball Movie Actors but Still No Trailer

Keeping everyone up to date with the upcoming Dragon Ball movie that comes out in August.. here are some more actors confirmed last month for the movie; still no trailer yet though.

Grandpa Gohan - Randall Duk Kim
Carey Fuller - Texas Battle
Emi - Shavon Kirksey
Agundas - Richard Blake

Ernie Hudson- Popo?

Other than Grandpa Gohan and Popo, I don't even know these characters. It appears that this movie takes place during the end of the Dragon Ball saga when the young Piccolo appears after King Piccolo dies. One scary thing though is the MovieFone description where they messed up by saying that Goku first love is Chi-Chi and then loves Bulma...which is completely wrong in many accounts and lets hope thats not there or there will be many pissed off DBZ fans. The picture above and more descriptions of the movie can be found here at the official blog.

More DBZ Movie News: Master Roshi and Others Cast

To keep everyone up to date with the Dragon Ball Z live action movie; today it was announced that Chow Yun-Fat will play Master Roshi in the Dragon Ball Z movie coming out on August 15th 2008. Originally I spoke to about the roles when Goku and Piccolo where announced. Here's a list of the roles that are confirmed if you haven't already heard.

Justin Chatwin (Goku)
James Marsters (Piccolo)
Jamie Chung (ChiChi)
Emmy Rossum (Bulma)
Eriko Tamura (Mai)
Joon Park (Yamcha)
Chow Yun-Fat (Master Roshi)

Nothing on Vegeta or others as of yet and from the looks of it, the story line will be the end of the Dragon Ball Saga when Goku marries ChiChi and fights Piccolo in the tournament. So we might not see Vegeta and they haven't called me yet for Future Trunks so we might have to wait on a sequel for that.

Back in the News; Dragon Ball Z Live Action Movie

A few years back there was a whole bunch of hype about a Dragon Ball Z Live Action Movie. 20th Century Fox was in the plans to make a big budget movie about everyone's favorite Manga and Anime, Dragon Ball Z, but then the project got scraped.

As of recent news, the project is back in the works with roughly a 100 Million dollar budget and already some roles being cast. This news comes from both Variety magazine and from one of my product dealers from my anime store, Diamond Comics. Here's what they had to say:

"As reported by Variety, Justin Chatwin, the actor best known for his role in Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds, has been cast as protagonist Goku, the powerful Saiyan warrior dedicated to protecting Earth from alien threats and evil tyrants. The actor that formerly portrayed Spike on TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, James Marsters has signed on as Piccolo, the villainous green fighter with hopes of world domination and one bold enough to take on Goku. The film will be directed by James Wong, produced by filmmaker Stephen Chow and has been assigned the tentative worldwide release date of August 15, 2008."

This is obviously big news if you are a DBZ fan. Diamond comics and I are excited about this since a few new cast figures will be coming out next year now. Personally I feel that a CG film would do better but I'm excited either way. Hey, maybe they'll find my New Faces Comp cards and I'll get the role as Trunks ^_^... well, I can dream.. but stay tuned as I get more info on this.
